Looking for Baby &
Toddler Sign Language Classes in north Durham Region?
You’ve Come To The Right Place!
Lisa Adams is mom to three school-age children: Decara, Lorelei and Rayne. Lisa has two
Deaf cousins and, although she never learned sign language as a child, she grew
up watching it and did learn some basic signs. As a child, Lisa saw that
hearing people who couldn't speak and/or who had other disabilities could use
sign language. So, when it was evident that her daughter Lorelei had a speech
delay, Lisa taught her the signs that she knew. It worked - Lorelei could
communicate through sign before she eventually started to speak. A few years
later, Lisa was quite surprised to find out that baby sign language was becoming popular
and many parents were teaching their babies to sign. In the meantime, Lisa had
begun seriously studying American Sign Language at Durham College in Oshawa and
is now fluent enough to function well within the Deaf community.

Lisa remarks "I love signing as a
means of communication and would love to share
it with others." Lisa is a firm
believer in introducing sign language to infants
and young children. It not only lays a solid
foundation for spoken language, it also provides
the basis for learning American Sign Language
later on.
