Nancy Foster
is the mother of three wonderful boys. She taught fingerspelling (a component
of ASL) to one of her sons, who in turn greatly helped his mother with her
fingerspelling receptive (understanding) skills while she attended the Intervenor
for Deaf-Blind Persons Program at George Brown College (GBC). This is one
example of the benefits of having children! Nancy started learning American
Sign Language while at GBC and has continued her ASL studies at the Bob
Rumball Centre for the Deaf (BRCD). She has also worked as a volunteer in
the Adult Day Program at the BRCD.
Nancy has a Bachelor
of Music and a Bachelor of Education degree both from the University of
Toronto. She has taught in the Public School system and has done extensive
volunteer work in her community including leading music sessions with children
at her church and teaching English to classes of women who are immigrants.
Nancy believes a major
part of what makes us human is the ability to communicate. She was first
introduced to the concept of signing with your baby while at GBC and was
totally amazed with the results. Nancy is excited about teaching the WeeHands
program and looks forward to opening up the doors of communication between
babies/toddlers and their families and friends!
