Terrie Baumgartner
is the mother to
signing identical toddler triplet girls! Before the birth of her triplets she
worked in the fitness industry as a personal trainer, an aquafit instructor, an
aerobics and spinning instructor. Terrie has eight years in the fitness
industry supporting and teaching adults to help them reach their fitness,
health and personal goals.
Terrie, and her husband,
started signing with their girls in the fall of 2004.
Multiples can suffer from speech delays due to low birth weights and
pre-maturity. Terrie found the results within her own family to be so
outstanding that she returned to school to update her ASL certifications -
Conestoga College American Sign Language program. Terrie has been teaching
with WeeHands™since the spring of 2005 and has had a rewarding
response; personally helping over 200 families utilize ASL for early
communication.
Her triplets in 15 months reached a working signing
vocabulary of over 300 signs. Although all three girls are talking now,
one was believed to have a speech delay. “Signing was our godsend! It
allowed us to communicate with all three girls on the same level”.
Terrie knows first hand that early communication is a must with multiples
and American Sign Language filled that gap.
